How Many Times a Week Should I Practice Yoga?

Practice as much as you want and as much as your body will allow! Most students use our New Student Special of $20 for 2 weeks Unlimited Yoga to get a feel of how often they are going to practice with us. During this time, we encourage our students to try out all of our instructors and classes because we all have different teaching styles and content. You’ll never come to the same class twice! After the 2 week special, students can then monitor and balance their practice and health progress. Practicing Hot Yoga 3 to 5 times a week is the most beneficial.

Can I continue working out while I practice hot yoga?

Yes! Hot Yoga will benefit your life in all areas and give you more energy! It will also help to prevent injuries associated with other physical activities you may participate in.

Yes! Drink plenty of water before and after your class. Some students add electrolytes or trace minerals to water to help replenish what your body will sweat out. Coconut water is also a great idea to consume after a class – this is wonderful for re-hydration and has more potassium than bananas!

What if I am not flexible?

Many people think that they need to be flexible to do yoga, but that’s like saying you need to be strong to lift weights -just as you become stronger by lifting weights, you’ll start to gain flexibility by doing yoga.

This is especially true of hot yoga – because your muscles are warm, then your body will be more open and pliable and you’ll find that you can stretch more deeply than you can at room temperature.

Besides, we worry if you leave! The front door is locked during each class, so leaving the studio before class is finished is highly discouraged. If you do need to leave early, please just notify your instructor

What if I have no experience in yoga? Can I do yoga if I have an inury?

Perfect. Hot Yoga is a great match for you and everyone has to start somewhere! Many new students that join our studio have no prior experience with any yoga at all. Classes at My Hot Yoga have been created for the beginner and the average person. You don’t really think everyone in America is naturally flexible do you?

The only way to get better at anything is do it over and over again.

Persons with sickness or injuries are welcome too. This is a great chance to get to know your body and reflect on what is out of balance. That “out of balance” part of you has a huge contributing factor as to why you became injured in the first place. We recommend starting your practice with our low-intensity Deep Stretch class.

Aerial yoga is new to Southwest Missouri and My Hot Yoga is the only yoga studio in the area offering it! We suspend yoga slings from our ceiling and practice off the ground! Be prepared to swing, invert, stretch, and spend a lot of time upside down! Although practicing aerial yoga requires a lot of core and upper body strength, we encourage anyone to try it. We do turn the heat off for these classes, but please be mindful if you are prone to motion sickness, and please make sure not to eat a big meal before practicing with us!

What is the room heated?

For two main reasons – the heat gives you access to many physiological and psychological benefits. In other words, it’s good for your body and your mind.

Psychological benefits:

  • The class is challenging – you feel a sense of accomplishment afterwards
  • You train your mind – you enhance your ability to focus and concentrate, as well as increasing your self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-respect
  • You connect with your inner self – you access deeper levels of meditation and consciousness

Physiological benefits:

  • Your heart works harder – you get a cardiovascular workout
  • You will sweat – cleansing your skin and detoxing
  • Your muscles are warm – you get a deeper stretch with less chance of injury

I'm Worried About the Heat. Should I be?

We absolutely adore the heat! Most people come to My Hot Yoga because they love what the hot yoga does for their bodies and minds. If you are concerned about the heat, it is important to realize that it can take a few classes for your body to get acclimated to this dramatic change in temperature. Therefore, go easy on yourself while your body is adapting. We recommend starting your practice with our Deep Stretch (yin yoga) class – this is our low-intensity class that incorporates either seated or kneeling poses.Just remember to always LISTEN TO YOUR BODY – you are always welcome to sit out poses if needed. You can also control your breathing by lying down on your back with your palms up to help release heat.
